Our Sports Leaders Programme allows each student to complete the Sports Leaders course for students aged 12+ Applicants do not need to be naturally sporty to benefit from this course and no previous experience is necessary. It is not competitive and it's not selective. Essentially, the course is both energetic and fun and the student's efforts are recognised with certification of a recognised qualification upon completion. The higher awards also carry UCAS points
Level 1 Sports Leadership (SL1)
The Level 1 qualification is for learners aged 12 and over and it requires 23 hours of tutoring time. This qualification outlines the basics of establishing leadership skills and how they can be applied into leading sessions.
Level 2 Community Sports Leadership (CSL2)
The Level 2 qualification is for learners aged 13 and over and it requires 24 hours of tutoring time. This qualification is recognised in personal statements required by universities and starts to develop leadership skills and helps the learners with planning and leading sports sessions and events.
Level 3 Sports Leadership (SL3)
The Level 3 qualification is for learners aged 15 and over and it requires 60 hours of tutoring time. This qualification also provides each learner that completes the course with 16 UCAS points and further develops leadership skills and helps learners with planning, leading and evaluating sports sessions and events.
Course Background
For over 30 years Sports Leaders UK have guided students to develop leadership, planning and organisational skills, increase their knowledge of health and well-being as well as develop interpersonal skills and confidence. These ideals are shared by us at Accelerate Sports and we have seen that these assets and skills have far greater application than just being limited to the world of sports or health. Through our Leadership and Mentorship programmes, we see the confidence and presence of each student develop significantly. Everyone has a voice, but this course teaches students to use it effectively.
Our Sports Leadership programme provides a great start for candidates aged 12 years and over to develop these skills whilst under the direct supervision of their tutor in a supportive club environment. Every week we engage in a variety of sporting activities that run alongside our Supersport Saturday programme for 5-11 year olds. This allows each student the chance to have the practical experience of working in a group and learning the fundamentals of a sport, game or activity - and then the practical application of working with younger children to apply the fundamentals through practical experience.
To complete level 1 and 2 and attain the nationally recognised qualification takes between 3 and 6 school terms. The courses are modular and as such if a student has participated in an introductory course at their secondary school they will be able to carry this work over. Class sizes are capped at 16 students.
Beyond students participating in a variety of sports and team building games that allow them to be more active and health-conscious young adults, we also ensure they have an in depth understanding of the principles of coaching and training principles.
